One Night It Rained

One night it rained.

I thought of this image while listening to the song “Night Moves” by Bob Seger.  I won tickets to his concert in 1976 or early 1977 in Tampa, FL.  He was still just a small band and not a lot of people were at his show.  My husband and I were 15 and 17 years old.  I remember the concert was on a Sunday night and Patty Smith opened the show – she was stoned and fell off the stage.  We didn’t know who she was or who Bob Seger was.  Not many kids in our high school did.

The picture reminds me of the long summer nights when it would rain and I would stay up late reading my Nancy Drew and Judy Blume books while the rain gently fell through the trees onto the ground next to my window.  In Florida it would rain often in August.  We didn’t use the air conditioner and the fan and rain made a wonderful noise while falling into a sound sleep with images of sleuthing characters fresh from the pages of my books.

My daughters never did get into the Nancy Drew series like my best friend and I who used to race through the books to “win” who would finish first.  We still reminisce about that summer.  I still think I won.
